Staff from first to last train at Prahran and Windsor stations

Prahran station and Windsor station are set become fully staffed premium stations as part of the 2010 Brumby Government Budget, improving safety and facilities for local passengers State Labor Member for Prahran, Tony Lupton has said.

“I am thrilled to inform local train users that both Prahran and Windsor stations will be upgraded to premium stations, with staff working from first to last train seven days a week,” Tony Lupton said.

“The upgrades to Premium stations at both Prahran and Windsor will mean that both stations are fully staffed from first to last train, have a ticket office where passengers can buy tickets, enquire about services and get information about the network.

“Increasing staffing at stations provides more security for passengers. Other improvements as part of the upgrades will include improved passenger information displays with real time service updates, toilets, enclosed waiting areas with air conditioning and heating, more seats and improved CCTV,” Tony said.

The upgrade to Premium stations builds on the $3 million improvement and refurbishment works that was completed on both stations last year.

“Those works saw the restoration of Windsor station’s heritage façade and foot bridge as well as improved lighting, seating and platform surfaces at both stations. The transition to premium stations is the next natural step for both Prahran and Windsor.”

Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula said the 2010 State Budget allocated $83.7 million over the next four years for the upgrade of 20 stations to premium station status.

“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to deliver the best transport network in Australia and we know that passengers like a staffed presence across the metropolitan rail network,” Mr Pakula said.

“That is why I am delighted to announce that 20 stations will be upgraded to premium station status and will be staffed from first to last train every day.”

The 20 stations were chosen based on patronage, security and their location to ensure a wider spread of Premium and staffed stations across the entire network.

“Once this program is complete, there will be 97 premium stations across the metropolitan rail network improving access and safety for thousands of commuters every day,” Tony Lupton said."
